Pumpkin is actually good for dogs and cats when properly fed. Pumpkin is high in vitamins and minerals that promote digestive regularity and boost the immune system. Pumpkin is also a great source of soluble fiber, making it a great food for weight loss by providing a low-calorie feeling of fullness. The fiber content alone has many health benefits for both cats and dogs.

To list a few, fiber controls large bowel-diarrhea, lowers cholesterol by attaching to it in the digestive tract and removing it from the body, manages diabetes mellitus by slowing the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, optimizes colon health, may reduce the risk of colon cancer, and promotes healthy gut bacteria.

To add pumpkin to your dog or cats’ daily diet, you can purchase dry or wet food that already contains the ingredient. Pumpkin is present in our Nutrience SubZero, Grain Free and Infusion lines for both dogs and cats. Make sure to always portion properly when feeding pumpkin as a supplemental ingredient to your dog or cat’s food.

Another great source of soluble fiber is butternut squash. Butternut squash can be found in all our SubZero Raw diets, as well as many of our dry and wet formulas.
