Human Foods You Can Feed Your Pet

It’s hard to resist those big and round puppy eyes or your kitty’s cocking head when they’re looking up at you while cooking your meal. We’ve all been tempted to share a piece of what we’re eating with our four-legged friends and most of us are won over by the temptation. The question is what foods that we humans eat, are safe to give to our pet?

Table scraps are not a good option for your pet. Most of our food has salt and other ingredients that is hard on your pet’s digestive system and could cause health issues in the long run. You should opt for a healthy treat which consist no more of 10% of the pets’ daily meal portion. So next time you feel the need to feed your pet a piece of that human food you’re having, here’s a list of safe foods you can treat your pet to, in small quantities of course! Make sure you slice the food into small pieces and remove any seeds or pits.

Safe human foods for your dog:

  • Cooked salmon
  • Carrots
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Cucumbers

Safe human foods for your cat:

  • Fish such as tuna, cooked flounder and cod
  • Cooked poultry
  • Baked carrots
  • Steamed broccoli

Safe human foods for both your dog and your cat:

  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Green beans
  • Cooked asparagus, pumpkin and butternut squash
  • Cheese (be careful with this ingredient as pets can be lactose intolerant)
  • Cooked eggs

Want pet foods that have No Bad Anything?

Here’s list of foods your pet should stay away from:

  • Chocolate
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Grapes
  • Raisins
  • Yeast dough
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Avocados
  • Wild mushrooms
  • Rhubarb
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee

There’s nothing to say you can’t share some of your own foods with your pet. It’s all a matter of making good choices, to ensure his daily diet is balanced, safe, fun – and lets you treat him to the odd bite off your plate.
