At the end of each year, many make a list of the habits they want to adopt to improve their health and happiness. Why not include your dog or cat in your New Year’s resolutions?
Your pets can play an important role in achieving your resolutions. Who better than your dog to help you stay in shape? And what about cuddle sessions with your feline friend to reduce stress?
Here are some resolutions you can make with your furry friend to ensure 12 months of health and happiness.
Doing more exercise is often at the top of the list, which is also beneficial for your pet. There is no one better than your pet to help you stay motivated to move more. Start with short walks, a play session in the park, or playing ball in the backyard. Gradually increase the time you play or walk but be sure to go at your own pace. There is no need to aim for a marathon! If you are the lucky pet parent of a cat, it is important to stimulate them by having them chase a ball or a light dot. These activities are important to develop your cat’s motor skills.
It is no secret for anyone that eating good food is better for your health. The same goes for your pet. While you avoid fats and sugar, you should also avoid giving table scraps to your pet. Take the time to read the ingredients included in your dog or cat’s food, just as you would do for yourself. Don’t forget that changing eating habits doesn’t happen overnight; you most proceed gradually to achieve your goal.
Cuddling with your cat or dog helps lower your stress level and blood pressure. These quiet moments can also reduce your pet’s anxiety level. Consider including little “cuddle” sessions throughout the day for the well-being of the whole family.
The start of a new year is the perfect moment to learn a new skill or discover a hidden talent. Also take advantage of this time to teach your dog a new trick or command. Don’t forget that cats too can be trained to do simple tricks like giving the paw, jumping from one place to another on command or fetching the ball.
With everything that is happening around us, it’s not easy to stay focused on the present moment. When your pet is with you, they do not worry about the past or the future. Try to do the same and be in the moment. The next time your dog stops to sniff a flower, do not pull on his leash, but rather, take the time to smell the flowers too!
Including your cat or dog in your resolutions is a great way to stay focused on your goals. Good luck with all your new year’s resolutions!
